Hi, I’m Cristina
I'm your host and founder of Behind the Bite Podcast.
I am just like any other person out there. A single, working mom with two teenagers.
I am very grateful for how my life is right now. Because I can tell you, for many, many years, each and every day was a struggle.
My entire life revolved around food, hating my body, and an unrelenting need to lose weight and wear a size "X".
I truly believed I could not be happy unless I finally lost weight.
I constantly felt like a failure and told myself I was "not good enough" because I could never stick to the strict, restrictive food and exercise rules I set for myself.
I was so misinformed about food, exercise, my body...everything!!!
I am so excited to share more of my story here on this podcast...
When I was going through my own struggles, Podcasts didn't exist.
I wish they had, though.Because I know I needed to hear the right information at that time.
I would have loved to know I was not the only one thinking, feeling, or doing what I was. To not feel so alone.
So, I created this podcast because my hope is that it gives you something that you need.
And, maybe even helps you on your way to overcoming your struggles and on to recovery.
Through my own experience and the information shared by some truly amazing guests who have also been personally affected by an eating disorder, you'll gain personal insights and perspectives from people who have been there..who understand the struggle...and know how it affects you and every part of your life.
Welcome!
Hi, I’m Dr. Castagnini
I'm also your host and founder of Behind The Bite Podcast.
I am a licensed Psychologist and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist.
While I may have over 20 years of clinical experience, what I also have is the experience of having been a patient who had an eating disorder as well.
One thing that I never had during all of my treatment was someone who could look me in the eye and honestly say to me "hey, I've been there. I understand".
Going through treatment for an eating disorder is one of the hardest and scariest things to do. I remember being asked to do things that I remember being asked to do things that scared me. Things I now know ultimately helped me to get better. But, at the time, I had serious doubts and fears about.
If even one of my providers had been able to tell me "I know it's scary, but I had to go through that part too. Here's what will probably happen...." then perhaps I would not have gone in and out of treatment so many times.
My own experience ultimately led me specialize in treating eating disorders. I wanted to be the therapist I never had; the one who "got it".
I will be giving you my perspective and information as an expert and clinician who has been treating patients for over 2 decades.
But don't just take my word for it...keep listening to hear the truly informative insights and knowledge guest experts have to share.
I am so happy you are here!
