Tapping and Western medicine

There’s going to be people out there thinking this is so weird … I’ve worked in Western medicine for a long time and I thought this was woo-woo. I became a believer because of my results, so you can’t knock it until you try it … now Western medicine is acknowledging that EFT can help with PTSD, eating disorders, traumatic events, and more. (Melanie Yates)
Many people in the Western scientific world were, and still are, skeptical about the benefits of tapping. However, recently Western medicine and science have proven the benefits, and so tapping is being slowly better welcomed into the medicinal world.
Tapping has been proven to be able to calm the brain and [release] those chemicals like serotonin and even dopamine released to kind of get us back to a resting brain instead of that fighting brain. (Melanie Yates)

How EFT remedies strong cortisol release

Cortisol is the chemical name for stress. It is the chemical that is released in the brain when the brain and body go into fight or flight mode: when it feels that it is in danger and needs to protect itself. That danger may be physical, but this reaction is also set off when you are in emotional danger as well.
What happens in [modern] day is that stress becomes a daily activity and people don’t know how to deal with stress. It could be work, it could be personal relationships, it could be finances. We have become a society that has [been encouraging you] to ignore it, push through it, use coffee, drugs, alcohol, food, to just bring you to get by. (Melanie Yates)
Modern society is fast-paced in such a way that it does not encourage you to rest, relax and recuperate after intense periods of work. Even though your daily commute to work, the usual stress of work and morning cup of coffee does not seem all that bad, it compounds over time. If you are not giving your body and brain the chance to unwind, all those small stressors get worse and worse until you suffer symptoms of larger issues. EFT is a technique you can use to tap into your resting brain. It allows you to tell your mind and body to slow down, that you are not constantly rushing, and can be still. This unwind is as important to your health as your eating habits and exercise.

EFT helps you see the truth from the lies

Our brain sees change as a potential danger. It struggles to distinguish bad change from good change, and so it will resist you to an extent when you try something out of your comfort zone. Our brain still thinks that if we change our routine, our habits, that we become vulnerable to predators. What is known is safe, that is the primal brain motto.
We found that tapping has helped reduce the fear and really see what the truth is from the lies, and really, our brain lies to us because it wants to keep us the same. Its job is to keep us safe … it protects us from changing anything, and then fear ends up ruling or making our decisions for us. (Melanie Yates)
EFT helps you to keep your brain and body calm and create positive change, by eliminating some of the fear you may feel. It is a tool that you can use to create a positive impact in your life by getting around the fear.
  • You can use EFT to target a negative emotion or thought that you have to evaluate and release from your mind.
  • It helps provide you with letting you know that you have a choice, that you are not a receiver of life events, but that you can be a responder with autonomy.
You use EFT to move blocked energy from meridians in your body, energetic lines, where energy might get stuck or stagnant due to stress or anxiety. You move the energy by tapping on those lines, which gets that stuck emotion to flow out from your system, enabling you to release the built-up tension.

MEET DR. CRISTINA CASTAGNINI

I am a licensed Psychologist and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist. While I may have over 20 years of clinical experience, what I also have is the experience of having been a patient who had an eating disorder as well. One thing that I never had during all of my treatment was someone who could look me in the eye and honestly say to me "hey, I've been there. I understand". Going through treatment for an eating disorder is one of the hardest and scariest things to do. I remember being asked to do things that scared me. Things I now know ultimately helped me to get better. But, at the time, I had serious doubts and fears about it. If even one of my providers had been able to tell me "I know it's scary, but I had to go through that part too. Here's what will probably happen...." then perhaps I would not have gone in and out of treatment so many times. My own experience ultimately led me to specialize in treating eating disorders. I wanted to be the therapist I never had; the one who "got it". I will be giving you my perspective and information as an expert and clinician who has been treating patients for over 2 decades. But don't just take my word for it...keep listening to hear the truly informative insights and knowledge guest experts have to share. I am so happy you are here!
